- Diagnostics and Planning
Many dentists skip this step, but we don’t. We’ll systematically and meticulously redesign your smile with zero guesswork.
At this appointment, we’ll take:

- 3D digital scans of your teeth

- Preparation and Prototypes
Before placing your final restorations, you’ll get to take a test drive with temporary acrylic restorations.
This step is extremely important for full mouth reconstruction because we need to verify you can chew comfortably.
To begin, we’ll prepare your teeth in the most conservative way possible. This is achieved by working closely with a ceramist and only reducing the tooth as needed.
Dr. Schmidgall will craft custom prototypes in the final restorations’ shape, texture, and color. These are placed over your prepared teeth and worn for roughly 4-6 weeks. The material of these prototypes can be modified if you’d like to change any aspect before the final restorations are made.
Once you are happy with the result, we’ll take a 3D scan of the final prototypes so the ceramist can copy this for your final restorations.
- Place Your New Smile
It’s the day you’ve been waiting for!
We’ll remove the prototypes then carefully bond your new restorations in place. We’ll balance your bite, confirm it functions well , polish , and go over instructions on caring for your new smile.

As a conservative dentist, Dr. Schmidgall will always use minimally-invasive treatments when possible. If you have minor problems with your teeth and gums, he may use treatments like root canals, gum grafts, dental crowns, and veneers to repair and restore your smile. We will not remove any of your teeth unless Dr. Schmidgall truly thinks that it’s necessary to do so.
However, removing teeth is sometimes needed for teeth that can’t be saved with other treatments. Dr. Schmidgall may recommend procedures like alveoloplasty or bone grafting along with tooth removal, since this helps prepare your smile for dental implants and other treatments.
If you are missing one, several, or most of your teeth, or you need most of your teeth to be pulled your full mouth rehabilitation will likely include dental implants. Dental implants are the most durable, long-lasting, and natural way to replace one, several, or even a whole mouth of missing teeth.
