Getting Invisalign in Fort Worth is a fantastic way to transform your smile. But if you’re considering treatment from Dr. Schmidgall at Country Day Dental, you may be wondering what to expect from the process. How does it work, how long does it take, and what are the steps for treatment? Find out now in this blog as we explain how Invisalign works step by step!

  1. Orthodontic Consultation

The Invisalign process begins with an orthodontic consultation at Country Day Dental. Dr. Schmidgall will examine your mouth, take x-rays and a digital surface scan of the teeth to determine if you’re a good candidate for Invisalign. Most patients with minor to moderate orthodontic issues will qualify for treatment, but traditional braces may be a better option for some patients.

  1. Invisalign Fitting And Aligner Pickup

After you’re approved for Invisalign, Dr. Schmidgall will take digital scans and pictures of your teeth. He will use this information to develop your Invisalign treatment plan. Once Dr. Schmidgall finalizes your plan, he’ll send it to Invisalign, and your first few sets of aligners will be built and sent to our office.

It usually takes a few weeks for your first sets of aligners to come to Country Day Dental. Once they arrive, you’ll come in to pick them up, and you’ll get instructions on how to wear them and care for them.

  1. Wearing Your New Aligners

You will need to wear your aligners for 20-22 hours per day, removing them only to eat and drink and to brush and floss. As you wear your aligners, they will exert pressure on your teeth, gently moving them toward the proper location over time.

In most cases, you will need to switch to a new set of aligners every 1-2 weeks. As you switch through multiple sets of aligners, your teeth will continue to shift toward a healthier position in your mouth.

  1. Routine Checkups With Dr. Schmidgall

Every six weeks or so, you’ll come back to Country Day Dental for a quick visit with Dr. Schmidgall. He will check your progress, and if everything looks good, he will give you a few more sets of aligners, as well as instructions on when to start wearing each set.

You’ll continue to come back to our office for routine appointments until you finish your Invisalign treatment. In most cases, Invisalign treatment will take about six months to one year to complete, though this may vary depending on your specific orthodontic needs.

  1. Final Appointment And Retainers

Once your Invisalign treatment is complete, you’ll need to come back to Country Day Dental for retainers. Depending on your preferences and the specifics of your case, Dr. Schmidgall may either recommend permanent retainers or removable retainers.

Retainers are essential after your Invisalign treatment. Wearing your retainer diligently will keep your teeth from shifting towards their original position, and will ensure that your smile looks straight and beautiful for years to come.
